WHAT TO EXPECT
Prior to treatment, the area should be cleansed and make-up free, and sun exposure and self-tanners should be avoided for 3 days prior to laser treatment. The procedure takes 30 minutes or less to perform. A slight discomfort may be felt with each laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. However, any discomfort usually resolves in a few seconds. After the treatment, sunblock is applied. For the first few days after the treatment, do not use abraisive scrubs or soaps on treated areas and apply sunblock SPF 30 or higher on a daily basis. A mild redness of the skin (like mild sunburn) may appear for several hours to a few days after the treatment. The side effects of the treatment are minimal, but can include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin), hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin), blistering, and purpura (a laser bruise).  Permanent side effects are rare. The total number of treatments will vary from patient to patient and will be discussed at your consultation. The area treated will continue to improve for 6 months after the final treatment and results last up to several years.
